| I
realized the answer to this question not long ago, when I was actually
a scout no more. Here I put some of my thoughts, as to why I wanted
to be scout? And why today I am proud of being once a member of
the B.V.S. scout movement.
When
I was about 11 or 12 years old, there were lots of confusing and
conflicting thoughts in my mind: things I wanted to do, things
I didn't, educational responsibilities, games and sports were
just a few of them. But one thing that beat them all was the desire
to be a part of my surroundings, an active interacting part, like
any young boy I desired importance, fulfillment and recreation.
It
was at this stage that I began to notice our school scouts running
about in their uniforms at our functions, going for camps, tours
and enjoying themselves. I probably felt I could solve my problems
by being one of them and that was the beginning of a new chapter
in my life.
Today,
I sit back and think what scouting did for me. What it made me
and I just can't wait to tell you my personal experiences.
At
a very tender age when you are seeking productive pastimes, I
can think of no better one than Lord Baden Powell's - Scouting
Movement. It has the right combination of everything. Come to
our camps when boys of school going age stay together far away
from the city life. They sleep in tents, make their own beds,
and even cook their own meals.
Our hikes are a test of physical endurance and urge one to examine
nature very closely. Visit our weekly scout meetings where, we
have a healthy combination of games, lectures, fights, and most
important of all, a spirit of comradeship.
Go
on one of our tours and you will probably never forget the fantastic
experience of being one with a group of thrill seeking youngsters.
Think how few of us get the real opportunity of experiencing any
of the above activities at an early age.
Being
a local district scout member automatically signs you in a world
scouting movement. And you can experience this spirit of brotherhood
and friendliness at our scout get-together called Camporees, Funorees
and Jamborees. You will have many friends and friends forever.
Let us view another aspect - Organization. Organizing camps, tours,
and weekly scout meetings can be knowledgeable and self-building
experience. Our youngsters barely 13-14 years old start to learn
organizing tactics. This gives them lots of self-confidence and
importance. Everywhere you see it holds a promise of excitement
and enlightenment.
So, why wait, join the B.V.S. school scouts now. It will open
up new horizons for your future and will make you a self-confident,
organized and a disciplined young man.
