A
GREAT HONOUR
|
|
It
was a cold winter day, the 6th December, 2005 when the 15th Intra
Board Science Essay Competition was held at Board of Secondary Education,
Karachi. I was confident to win the prize but I had no inkling that
the prize would be so valuable. Yes, meeting the Nobel Laureates.
When the result of the competition was announced, it gave me a lot
of pleasure to know that I had won the prize and was invited to
attend a meeting with the Nobel Laureates in Islamabad. I felt that
I was dreaming.
But it really happened on 29th March, 2006, first meeting of Nobel
Laureates with Pakistani students was organized by Pakistan Science
Foundation at Holiday Inn, Islamabad.
First of all, a member of the organization committee gave introduction
of Pakistan Science Foundation. Then, all Dutch Nobel Laureate Professor
Gerardus Hooft and American Nobel Laureates Professor Ivar Giaever
and Professor Charles Townes gave lectures and also told us about
their efforts to discover the secret facts of nature. I came to
know how these great people worked hard for their service towards
mankind. They all got Nobel Prizes in physics.
Afterwards, the winners of Science Essay and Poster Competitions
from all over the country posed scientific questions to the Nobel
Laureates. I asked a question about antimatter. They gave the answers
in simple words so that we could understand them easily. That increased
our knowledge very much. It was my luck that I was able to take
autographs from these great people.
Pakistan Science Foundation announced that they will select three
students from all the participants of the meeting and will give
them prizes. I hope that I also get this prize.
I appreciate Pakistan Science Foundation for organizing such a good
programme. This type of completions and meetings should be held
in future in order to help students in their studies and to encourage
them.
I am thankful my parents and teachers because it is due to their
efforts that I got the honour to meet the Nobel Laureates.
